A HOUSE on the site of the proposed new prison complex on the Meath-Dublin border is set to become a listed building. At a meeting tomorrow, councillors are expected to approve Thornton Hall as a protected structure, following a recommendation from Fingal county council's conservation department.
The 19th-century house on the east of the site will then be placed on the Record of Protected Structures. It was previously requested that the entire Thornton lands be made an archaeological conservation area.
The government bought the site for 30m last October. High Court proceedings against the Department of Justice are due to begin next month on the basis that the site itself is a national monument.
