FA CUP THIRD ROUND WIGAN ATHLETIC 1 LEEDS UNITED 1 JJB Stadium
LEEDS striker Rob Hulse's late equaliser means an extra fixture neither his manager Kevin Blackwell nor Wigan boss Paul Jewell needed.
After a hectic Christmas schedule both sides now face a third-round replay at Elland Road on 17 January following this draw at the JJB Stadium. Wigan appeared on course for a fourth-round berth for the first time in 19 years when Irish striker David Connolly pounced to poach his third goal of the season two minutes after the break. Jewell's side more than held their own as the game unfolded but were forced to play with 10 men for the final 15 minutes when Ryan Taylor limped off after they had used all their subsitutes. Leeds made the extra man count just three minutes from time when Hulse drove home.
"Before the game I'm sure this is the result neither club would have wanted, " Jewell said. "But at the end of the day you never want to lose games, and although we didn't want to replay, we don't like being beaten either."
