RASHERS TRIED & TASTED
Jillian Bolger

Denny Traditional Prime Back Rashers 3.15 180g The tasters enjoyed the sheer meatiness of these rashers. With 92% pork, the flavour was natural and the meat nicely tender.

****

Dunnes Stores Mild Cure Back Rashers 3.79 300g With 89% pork, these rashers had a pleasant sweetness. Overall, their flavour wasn't distinctive enough and they were found to be watery and bland.

**

M&S Irish Unsmoked Back Bacon 3.89 250g This bacon looked appealing but proved limp and thin.

Not as tender as we had expected and overly salty to taste. Unimpressive.

**

Shaws Traditional Back Rashers 3.60 210g With 94% pork, these have a wonderful gammon taste, are extra meaty and have real bite.

An excellent product and unanimous favourite of all tasters.

*****

Superquinn Rindless Irish Traditional Back Rashers 4.59 300g With a generous 91% pork content, this bacon was wonderfully tender but this was all compromised by a disappointing lack of flavour.

*

Tesco Pale Rindless Back Rashers 2.49 180g The tasters liked the traditional flavour of these rashers, despite there only being 88% pork content. Slightly saltier than hoped, they were full of flavour. Pleasant and tender.
