SO it's the travel issue. I'm living the life of the perpetual tourist. If anyone tells you they've done New York, they're lying. Forget the tried and trusted tourist traps . . . your Empire State Building, Statue Of Liberty, Museum Mile, Times Square etcf Here's five of my favourite NYC must-dos. I got a million of them. Now . . . let me know when you're coming over, and we can arrange drinks.
The Royal Tennenbaums' gaff Who doesn't love Wes Anderson's dysfunctional family epic? Take a pilgrimage to the house that doubled as the Tennenbaum family home . . .you'll find it in Harlem, on 144th St and Convent Ave.
You can't go inside, but as choice photo opportunities for movie geeks (like myself) go, it's a winner.
Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre Forget your overpriced Broadway shows; take a trip instead to the home of cutting-edge live comedy.
The UCB offer shows seven nights a week . . . the mustsee is Asssscat 3000 on Sunday night, featuring cast members from TV institution Saturday Night Live. It's free, too . . . check out www. ucbtheatre. com.
St Dympna's The go-to Irish bar in the East Village. Why? Sweet atmosphere, a great pint, friendly people. What more are you after? I once inadvertently spent the night there in the company of Richard Harris. It's that kind of place.
The Museum Of The Moving Image Take a trip to Queens and check out this monument to the history of the movies, where you'll find everything from the first kaleidoscopes to one of the actual Yoda puppets they used in The Empire Strikes Back. Hours of fun . . . guaranteed.
The Brooklyn Bridge The best views of Manhattan can be found by taking a brisk wander across this most iconic (and practical) of monuments.
Take the subway to the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall stop and get walking . . . it should take a half-hour or so. It's a breathtaking experience.
