THE East Village is in mourning for one of its most beloved landmarks, the legendary Second Avenue Deli, home of the Yiddish Hall Of Fame, which shut up shop permanently last week, due to a rent dispute.
Rated the number one deli in New York city by many a connoisseur, this Village landmark, a home from home to the local Jewish community for more than 50 years, was renowned for its legendary pastrami sandwiches, the tastiest route to a heart seizure to be found across the Five Boroughs. Alas, a number of Village landmarks are falling prey to outrageous hikes in rent, courtesy of rapacious developers seemingly determined to blandify the last bastion of alternative Manhattan living. Boo!
