Solerina just unstoppable
IRISH REVIEW Claire Barry

SOLERINA led home a onetwo for trainer James Bowe, and his son John, at Naas yesterday, when registering a two-length win, the 22nd of her career, at the expense of stable companion Florida Coast in the Cedar Building Hurdle.

However, jockey Gary Hutchinson reported afterwards that the 1/6 favourite didn't race with her usual enthusiasm. "I was very surprised when I saw Florida Coast come up beside her, but that's her 14th consecutive win, and her 40th race, and that says it all really, " Bowe's other son, and assistant, Michael, said afterwards.

"She's in great form at home, and doesn't look like a horse that's gone over the top. I want to do the right thing by he, because I'm never going to have another one like her in my life."

Sweet Wake, from the Noel Meade stable, overcame a muddling pace to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Irish Racing Writers Novice Hurdle later in the day, quickening up well for Paul Carberry for a three-and-a-half length win over Conscript.

The five-year-old's odds remain unchanged at 8/1 for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle at Cheltenham.

"I don't know if he'll run again before that, but the Supreme Novices is obviously the way we're heading. He does look very special, and you'd have to think, the way he moves, he'd be better on good ground, " Meade said.
