THE SELL-OUT last weekend of eight fully furnished show apartments, priced between 225,000 and 365,000 at Grange Rath, Drogheda, puts the Co Louth town back in the news, following the launch of the multimillion Scotch Hall in December.
Waiting in the wings is the launch of Drogheda's first 1m homes, due to be unveiled on 9 April by Grange Rath developers Shannon Homes. Agent Thomas Byrne reckons the entire project illustrates how a new homes development should recognise the importance of amenities and aesthetics. The 900 or so Grange Rath properties off the Dublin Road are set within 7 acres of woodlands and gardens, and include all-weather tennis courts and 5-a-side pitches.
Work is due to commence on a shopping centre and leisure centre that should further enhance the village-y feel of this new community.
An added benefit is the commute to Dublin, with 12 trains and several buses at rush hour in the morning, and Dublin Airport reckoned to be 23 minutes away. This has contributed to the popularity of the development, and capital appreciation, says Byrne. "A young couple trading up have just sold their three-bed mid-terrace for 311,000, having bought it two years ago for 205,000."
