I DON'T remember much about early holidays as a child because we were constantly touring. I had a good holiday last year which was great fun because I took my kids round Italy. They were at an age when they would be old enough to remember, so I took them to Venice, Florence, Rome and then onto Paris. It was a dream trip. We didn't do all the touristy stuff, we just tried to blend in.
I absolutely love Maui in Hawaii where there are the most beautiful beaches. In fact, there's a private beach there, near the Four Seasons hotel (which is one of my favourite hotels) which is just amazing -- they ship all the sand in.
When it comes to the actual travelling experience I'm always happy to get there . . . I'm slightly afraid of flying, which I suppose becomes more common the more you fly. You wonder about the odds. I had a bad experience once when the oxygen masks came down while we were flying over Tahiti. The cabin lost pressure and we had to make an emergency landing.
There were fire engines waiting on the runway, but thankfully we were okay.
I like to travel with my wife and family . . .I don't really like travelling anywhere without them. I also like having my Sony Playstation Portable to hand. I bought it for my kids and ended up keeping it for myself . . . the older I get the more I want to play with toys!
I do a lot of cruises. Like Hawaii, St John in the US Virgin Islands has wonderful beaches; you can see the fish through the seawater because it's so clear.
It feels like you're walking in an aquarium.
The best meal I've ever had abroad was in Sophia Loren's house. We had an incredible dinner of pasta with buffalo mozzarella and amazing tomatoes. I was a big fan of hers so I'm not sure if it was special because I was so enamoured of her, or because the food was amazing!
