HOT HOTEL
Roslyn Dee

Jury's Croke Park Hotel, Dublin

THIS is not what you expect of a Jury's hotel -- it's neither old-world chintz nor is it all blond-wood, Jury's Inns' minimalism. This is fourstar style, with furnishings that have a modern twist and with a slightly Oriental feel to the restaurant/bar/ reception areas. The bar is very funky . . . all big sofas and cushions and with an extremely open and airy feel to it. All 200-plus rooms come with sound systems and widescreen tvs.

What's the best thing?

The executive rooms are gorgeous . . . loads of space, fabulous bathoom and, with the most comfortable beds, they really fit the hotel's 'rejuvenate' theme of total relaxation. Also, the staff and standards are impressive: I stayed overnight with a teenager and when it came to opting for a pay-movie (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, as it happens) it materialised that a block had been put on our access because they had noted the teenager in residence . . . 'adult' movies are available. It took a phone call from me to release the movie.

Commendable.

Will it break the bank?

Current offer of 99 for a double room.
