THE tribunals at Dublin Castle have provided an interesting insight into Irish political life including the fashion consciousness of certain politicians, most notably Charlie Haughey's liking for expensive Charvet shirts from Paris.
Last week, we learnt from Frank Dunlop that when he was shopping in the Brown Thomas department store Pat Rabbitte emerged from behind a pillar "carrying a bag with a very significant tailor's name on it".
So let's forget about the cash donation from the lobbyist to the then Democratic Left TD . . . or whether it was worth 2,000 or 3,000 . . . or why six weeks after taking the money Rabbite sent back a 2,000 cheque to Dunlop.
No, far more important matters remain unanswered at the planning tribunal . . . we need to know what was in Rabbitte's bag in BTs.
After all, is it not for such information that these tribunals were established back in 1997?
