Constitution stroll to easy win

AIB LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CORK CONSTITUTION 25 UCD 0 Temple Hill

CORK Constitution ended UCD's recent good run of results against them with a comprehensive victory over the students at Temple Hill yesterday.

Coming into the game the students had won three and drawn one of the last four meetings, but yesterday, particularly in the second-half they were no match for the home side.

The home side had the better of the opening exchanges and dominated play in the opening 20 minutes, but they failed to score.

The remainder of the half saw plenty of endeavour and commitment but very little enterprise from both sides as the game played out in midfield.

Constitution did open the scoring in the 35th minute when Daragh Lyons was successful with a penalty.

UCD should have been level two minutes later, but Killian Lett missed a penalty to leave the home side ahead 3-0 at the break.

Cork increased their lead to 10-0 in the 56th minute when full-back Richard Lane went over for a converted try after a great pass by Diarmuid O'Riordan created the chance.

O'Riordan grabbed a sensational second two minutes later when he ran in from 30 yards out to make it 15-0.

Mike Ross added a third try in the 64th minute and Constitution were now out of sight and in search of that vital bonus point.

Merle O'Connell ensured the bonus point in the 70th minute when he was first to react to a charge down behind the UCD goal line and end what was a miserable day for the students.
