The Blueshirt rinse

THE world of the Irish internet blogger is consumed at the moment with next month's first awards ceremony for those who keep online diaries.

Among the nominated bloggers is Sarah Carey, whose Gubu blog chronicles the life of the mother of two, a regular media pundit.

Take last Monday, which was . . . as Carey explains in her blog diary . . . a "day of intense meeja appearances". The Gubu author was due to appear on RTE's Big Bite. "While it is a good programme, it is a casual enough one, " she wrote. "So I don't knock myself about to get the hair done or anything."

But when Q&A called looking for Carey to appear on the programme later that evening the hair moved up the priority schedule.

"As it's the major current affairs programme of the week, good hair is essential to a successful appearance, " Carey wrote.

We're glad to report that the Co Meath-based blogger managed to find a hairdresser before appearing on Q&A.

If Fine Gael is looking for a second candidate in Meath East, the party would do worse than to consider Carey, who's a daughter of Fine Gael county councillor, Willie Carey.
