A Siptu of the tongue

MICHAELMcDowell's admission last Friday that it doesn't matter whether Bertie Ahern or Enda Kenny leads the next government places the PD minister in an interesting position vis-a-vis Jack O'Connor, the president of Siptu.

O'Connor told a Labour party meeting last year that when it comes to coalition options most union members "would prefer to deal with Fianna Fail under Bertie Ahern than with Enda Kenny. . ."

It really all makes for bizarre politics when O'Connor . . . whose party wants to make Kenny Taoiseach . . . expresses a preference for Ahern but the justice minister, who sits at cabinet with Ahern, is neutral on Kenny becoming head of government.
