PLAYING A PART
Compiled by Miguel Delaney and Patrick Horan

JOSE MOURINHO IS THE WOODCUTTER IN RASHOMON An act of violence has taken place upon an evasive and desirable young specimen, but with all involved having their own contradictory view of events, no-one is sure what the truth is. Her own seeming tendency towards the theatrical only further complicates things. One thing is sure though, the woodcutter will be sticking by his self-serving story until the bloody end.

Maintaining that he saw no assault, his version appears to unravel when the commoner comes forward.

Presented with such incontrovertible evidence, one would expect the woodcutter to recant and restore the audience's faith in truth and integrity.

But, incredibly, he doesn't, insisting the court should go over the testimonies again and again and again and so forth. . . There is no redemption nor indeed exploration into what exactly the nature of truth is. Truth, it would seem, is only that which is espoused by the woodcutter.
