TRAINER Michael O'Brien and jockey Barry Geraghty teamed up for a double at Fairyhouse yesterday, the highlight of which was Forget The Past's emphatic eight length win in the Osmosis Ireland Limited Bobbyjo Chase.
The eight-year-old is owned by Sean Mulryan, and his performance put him in line for a crack at the Cheltenham Gold Cup, despite Geraghty's comment that the horse "felt a bit duller" than when winning at Gowran Park last Saturday. Forget The Past will be O'Brien's first runner in the Gold Cup.
"We've got 20 days to get him freshened up for the race, " O'Brien said. "He did what he had to do, and proved to me that he gets three miles."
Forget The Past is 25/1 with Sean Graham for the Gold Cup, while his price with Cashmans remains unchanged at 20/1.
Stable-companion In Compliance was a comfortable winner of the Sharp Electronics EBF Beginners Chase when justifying favouritism by four and a half lengths from Oulart. O'Brien is contemplating running the sixyear-old again in a "winners" race at Leopardstown next Sunday, before making up his mind about the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham.
Geraghty was fully expected to follow up aboard the Dermot Weld-trained market leader Bob's Pride in the Grade 3 Osmosis Ireland Limited Winning Fair Juvenile Hurdle, but his mount was beaten 15 lengths by the Dessie Hughes-trained First Row.
"We were aiming him at Punchestown, but after that performance we'll have to go for the Triumph Hurdle, " Hughes said. "He has enough pace to lie up with them, and stays well."
