There was an Irish one-two at the Isle of Man Grand Prix in Douglas yesterday when Colin Griffin from Ballinamore and Jamie Costin from West Waterford emerged victorious in the 20km Walk ahead of four British competitors at the National Sports Centre. Both athletes also ensured selection for the forthcoming World Race Walking Cup in La Coruna in May. Costin was particularly impressive in his first 20km since a car accident knocked him out of the Olympic Games in Athens.
World youth medallist in 2003, Ann Loughnane from Loughrea, set a new National under-23 record when winning the women's race in 1 hour 37 minutes and 45 seconds while Leitrim's Laura Reynolds took the junior 10km event in a personal best of 51 minutes and 51 seconds.
