THE GO-AHEAD Horticulture Ireland (formerly Bord Glas) branch of Bord Bia has announced a competition to design and build a garden outside its headquarters in Clanwilliam Court, Dublin 2.
It is hoped that the completed garden "will provide a permanent, visually aesthetic and functional symbol of the important role of horticulture within the organisation".
Clanwilliam Court is currently a rather uninspiring place of mismatched, purpose-built late 20th century of"ce buildings that would be greatly improved by the addition of a welldesigned green space A bleak, windswept paved throughway, it is certainly a challenging site for any garden maker. The winner will get to make his or her garden on site and receive a cash prize. Horticulture Ireland is expecting the event to attract a good round of media attention.
The competition is restricted to "horticulture and/or landscape/gardening design graduates currently engaged in the profession", which obviously excludes some of the very good and experienced working designers who have gained their credentials in other ways.
