Cheltenham contenders line up
IRISH PREVIEW Claire Barry

THE main focus of attention at Leopardstown today will come after the last race, when some of our leading contenders for honours at Cheltenham complete their preparation for the Festival by having their final workout on the course.

This scenario is now a traditional event, and many trainers, Dessie Hughes and Jessica Harrington included, will be queuing up to take full advantage of the schooling facilities. Leopardstown's racing manager Tom Burke is only too happy to facilitate the band of Cheltenhambound trainers.

"They can just come along on the day with their horses, and it suits people who have runners at Leopardstown, although we always have a few on Monday morning as well, " Burke said. "We're expecting a big turn-out, including Hardy Eustace, Justified and Moscow Flyer.

Willie Mullins will probably bring a few horses as well, and Moscow Flyer will jump a few fences."

Leopardstown shares the racing stage this afternoon with Clonmel, and Davy Fitzgerald's Limerick raider, the well-regarded Mister Top Notch appeals in the 28-runner Coyle Hamilton Willis EBF Maiden Hurdle.

Jockey Barry Geraghty has a good chance of doubling up aboard the Michael O'Brien-trained In Compliance in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Chase.

The selection, a winner at Fairyhouse last Saturday, is under consideration for the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham, and need only put in a sound round of jumping to account for Randwick Roar and Bruto Faccie.

Ruby Walsh, who rides the latter, should get his turn aboard Inch Island, from the Willie Mullins stable, in the Mongey Communications EBF Maiden Hurdle, while the Christy Roche-trained Jam Packed may be the answer to an open-looking Cill Dara Security (Pro-Am) INH Flat Race.

Meanwhile, at Clonmel, Thomond O'Mara's Banna Man, who has proved expensive to follow in bumper company, may be the answer to the opening Comeragh Maiden Hurdle. The Clonmel Hurdle half an hour later looks to be between Charlie Swan's good servant Over The First, Joueur D'Estruval and Accordion Etoile's full-brother French Accordion.

Joueur D'Estruval has been running consistently well of late, without getting his head in front, and he is awarded the vote.
