I LIKE to look as glamorous as possible when I go on stage so that inevitably involves a lot of sequins and sparkle! However, when I am not on stage I look rather different and am usually wearing combat trousers and a tee-shirt.
I can't wear particularly high or flat shoes because they seem to hurt my back so I wear ecco shoes. I suppose the best way to describe them would be as an up-market trainer.
I like to get dressed up and make a big effort with false nails and eyelashes but I couldn't look like that every day, it would just get boring then. I spend a lot of time walking the dogs so glamour isn't really my number one priority.
I am embarrassed to say that I embraced the style of the '80s, I'm afraid I went in for the shoulder pads and bat-wing jumpers. When I see photographs of myself I cringe with embarrassment.
I don't know what I was thinking, particularly with the shoulder pads because I am quite small in stature so I must have looked like a little triangle. I had jackets with red-chequered lining.
Horrendous.
These days, I think I look much better and I have learned how to best present myself. I usually try and wear one colour, mainly because of my height.
As a teenager, I had pretty firm ideas on style. I wanted a suede mini-skirt but my mother refused to buy it for me so I made my own . . . it was actually more like a belt than a skirt, it was so short. I loved it and wore it for years and years.
I don't like shopping in large department stores, I prefer boutiques and second-hand stores because I think that a lot of the highstreet retailers have a tendency to look the same.
One of my favourite items at the moment is a mustardcoloured blouse; it has big floating sleeves and it is quite striking. I could actually wear it as a dress and I think I did once although it's a bit short. I usually wear it with jeans.
