FANCY the sound of a B&B that serves gourmet meals in the evenings? Time then for a trip to Salville House, close to Enniscorthy in Co Wexford. This 19thcentury period house, owned by Jane and Gordon Parker, sits on a hill overlooking the River Slaney and is close to the magical Curracloe Beach. Don't bother heading out for dinner while you're here.
Simply book a place at the long dining table, by the crackling open fire and enjoy the company of your fellow guests. There isn't a formal menu (so mention dislikes/allergies when booking) and Gordon uses locally caught fish and, where possible, organic veg from Salville's gardens.
We enjoyed treats like monkfish brochettes on mango salsa, tangy apple sorbet, excellent sea bass on olive oil mash and incredibly good warm chocolate pudding. With four courses costing an impossible 35 and a BYO policy that doesn't charge corkage you'll find this cheaper than a posh night out in Dublin!
So pack your toothbrush and your finest Bordeaux and head for the hills. B&B 45 50 per person (and breakfast is pretty impressive too).
