SOME people go on TV trying to look hip and end up looking like an unmade bed, but I know my limitations. If I'm doing something like Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, I try to be a bit more funky, so I'll wear jeans and a leather jacket.
But as a presenter you have to have a sense of presence . . . the viewers expect you to look in control, which means wearing a suit. I've finally realised you can look great in a suit without a tie, so for this series of Celebrity Fit Club I'm going to be brave and try to ditch them.
Individuality is so important. None of us gets it right all of the time and our self-image is very different to how people see us.
I try to dress for my age with an eye on the youth, so I complement the fashion of today and temper it with a bit of conservatism. Since I lost weight, the greatest discovery to me has been that a man of my age can wear low-rise jeans. I love that look of jeans hanging off your arse. I'm obsessed with Diesel jeans.
I'm very fashionconscious, although when I'm not working I'm happiest in a tracksuit.
Weight is a constant battle with me, I've been battling with it all my life.
My Diesel jeans are my constant benchmark. Since I discovered the joys of the iPod, I've started walking across town listening to music, but I don't go to the gym anymore. Exercise is very important but it makes no difference if you don't watch what you eat. I don't plan on eating carbohydrates till 2008 but I cheat all the time. It's a nightmare.
Having plastic surgery was the best thing I ever did. I had my nose done when I was 21, and a face lift four years ago. You're only as good as the surgeon you go to. And don't try to knock off too many years.
If you can take a few years off so you look like you've had a holiday and a good sleep, you've done well.
