WHILST wine may be free of fat and cholesterol, alcohol is fermented sugar so every glass will contain plenty of those dreaded calories. The higher the alcohol or sweeter the wine, the more calories it will have. A 115ml glass of dry white will typically have 80-90 calories, a glass of red 90105. Sadly, Champagne has residual sugar and will have 100-105 calories. It may not sound like much but if you drink a glass of fizz before dinner, a glass of white with your starter, and two glasses of red with your main course, you will have added 380-400 calories to your waistline.
Under 10 WeightWatchers Riesling, Germany, 8.99 There is now a full range of WeightWatchers Wines, including two whites, a rose and a red. Having tasted them all, I prefer the Riesling. Light, fresh and fruity, there are 80 calories per 125ml glass, or as WeightWatchers need to know, five points per bottle . . . a glass would then be slightly less than a point.

A mere 12% alcohol, finishing dry, you can knock it back to your heart's content, helped by the fact that the wine is absolutely delicious with fresh zippy lemons, crisp green apples finishing bone dry. The perfect aperitif or with fish, seafood chicken and salads.

I chose this wine simply because it is one of the best Italian wines I have drunk in the last year . . . a smooth but never over-ripe wine with a lovely peppery touch, nice, lightly grippy tannins on the finish and real persistence. It did wonders for my roast chicken.
