Bomb kills five in Afghanistan

A ROADSIDE bomb hit a police convoy in Afghanistan, killing five officers who were transporting the bodies of four Macedonian workers kidnapped in the south of the country a week ago, officials said yesterday.

Police found the bodies of the Macedonian men on Thursday in a mountainous region in the Maywand district of Kandahar. The four Macedonian employees of a German firm were abducted by Taliban militants last Saturday.

The bomb struck one vehicle in the police convoy as it was returning the bodies to Kandahar, killing five officers and wounding three. Other vehicles in the convoy continued on to Kandahar and the bodies were later transported to Kabul.
