FA PREMIERSHIP ARSENAL 3 CHARLTON ATHLETIC 0
ARSENAL moved back into the top four in the Premiership after a 3-0 victory over Charlton at Highbury.
The home side made just one enforced change as they looked to climb back into the top four of the Barclays Premiership against Charlton this afternoon.
Robert Pires replaced the injured Freddie Ljungberg in midfield as the Gunners sought a second straight home win after their victory over Liverpool.
Forward Robin van Persie was back on the bench after recovering from a broken toe, but there was no place in the squad for England defender Sol Campbell or youngster Theo Walcott, who turned 17 earlier this week.
FA Cup quarter-finalists Charlton handed Jason Euell his first start of the campaign, Denmark winger Dennis Rommedahl returned from a rib injury, while Jerome Thomas and Jonathan Spector also came back in.
At the start Charlton were in danger of being over-run in midfield, and Arsenal finally went ahead after 13 minutes.
Alexander Hleb won the ball and sped away down the right.
He fed Henry, who in turn picked out Adebayor on the edge of the box. A quick onetwo released the Gunners captain down the left side, for him to surge to the goalline and cut a pass back to Pires, who could not miss with his delicate side-foot to the back of the net.
It was, however, soon 2-0 after 32 minutes.
Henry's through-ball should have been cut out easily by Hreidarsson, 15 yards from his own goal.
However the Icelander's terrible control allowed it to squirm away from him, and right to the waiting Adebayor, who slid in to hook the ball past Myhre.
Arsenal, on 49 minutes, went 3-0 ahead.
Hleb was allowed to surge to the edge of the area and shoot, with Hreidarsson making a brave block. Spector then threw himself in the path of Adebayor's strike from the rebound, only for Hleb to then lash the loose ball into the net, and that proved to be the last goal action.
