IFyou're going to survive in New York City, you have to have your abbreviated Manhattan districts down pat . . . there's your tried and trusted perennials like SoHo (short for South Of Houston) and Tribeca (that would be the Triangle Below Canal Street, fact fans), alongside relative newcomers like NoLita (North Of Little Italy) and SoLita (ermf you can probably figure that one out). Residents of the Lower East Side weren't having any of it, however, when an enterprising estate agent took to calling the area NoHo.
Formerly a home to the world's largest concentration of human beings . . . roughly 300,000 per square mile . . . the LES continues to defy definition. And we respect that.
