PROPERTY developer Tony Fitzpatrick of Landmark Developments takes on a new challenge next month when he travels along America's Route 66 on his Harley Davidson, to raise funds for Down Syndrome Centre. The charity aims to build Ireland's first centre providing specific medical and developmental services for people with Down Syndrome.
Fitzpatrick became interested in the Down Syndrome Centre through his friend Peter Gaw.
Founder of the charity, Gaw has two children, Tara (7) and Harrison (3) who have Down Syndrome.
Fitzpatrick's 10-day 'Dash for Cash' on the famous 4,000km-long trans American route is hoped to raise significant funds for the centre.
The charity are currently looking at sites near the M50, an area which will hopefully be accessible to a wide range of people.
A phased project, the Down Syndrome Centre will initially build a drop-in centre, eventually developing an educational facility and an independent living centre on-site.
Flying to Chicago on 19 April with his Harley Davidson, Fitzpatrick hopes to arrive in Los Angeles 10 days later, having passed through eight states and three different time zones to get there.
