>> It is important to remember that, when planting a new garden, it is best practice to put in your big specimens first, the trees and shrubs, then the perennials or any bedding such as wallflowers or sweet williams and last of all your bulbs. If you do it the other way round, then you'll forever after be stabbing them with your fork or spade.
>> You should also remember this: that repeating plantings of things of the same variety throughout part or all of a scheme will instantly lend it rhythm and structure and great authority. All of these qualities will be missing if you go for bitty or spotty planting.
>> Aim to finish pruning roses before the end of the month and before they've put on too much new growth. Leave it too late, and you'll be sacrificing future flowers.
>> The time has come to start repotting any indoor plants that have outgrown their present quarters. Give them plenty of fresh compost and nutrients. Usually, a pot one size up from the old one will be sufficient for their growing needs.
