Calm week sees Dunne edge into first place

THE CELEBRITY traders in the Delta Index challenge took a chance to catch their breath this week after the rollercoaster ride of the last month. International markets were much calmer and this was reflected in less extreme returns, a marked difference from the opening weeks of the competition.

Property developer Sean Dunne edged into first place ahead of last week's leader, Willie O'Reilly of Today FM.

Both traders should be invited to the Oil Barons Ball as they have generated most of their considerable returns trading Brent Crude. However, in a week where the oil market lacked any strong direction, neither trader made any big moves.

As predicted last week, the big mover was Bill Kelly, who staged a strong comeback after a tough start to the competition. Bill focused on trading a tight number of volatile US shares; His positions on Google and US house builder Beazer Homes in particular helped him gain 30,000 over the week.

Michael Dwyer of Pigsback. com took over 20,000 profit on his Dow Jones position and added to his short position on Google, bringing him into third place overall in the competition. Gay Mitchell, TD and MEP, traded sideways on his S&P and FTSE index positions following a strong week of performance.

It was a quiet week on the Irish equity market and there was little movement for either former footballer and property developer Niall Quinn or Ken MacDonald of Hook and MacDonald. Both traders have significant positions on the major banks and will need them to perform to match their achievements so far in the competition.

Tanya Airey of Sunway Travel struggled in the face of a weakening Australian Dollar. Our other currency trader, John O'Shea of GOAL, fared better but also gave up some of his previous weeks gains.

A generally difficult dollartrading environment was responsible.

How to Change your Trading Te am Readers who wish to switch celebrity traders should make their changes by 3.00pm next Monday. The new selections of traders will become active on Tuesday morning.
