I STUDIED accounting at college but just after I finished my exams I decided that it wasn't really for me after all. I have always loved clothes but I suppose when I was making all those career decisions at school I couldn't really imagine a career in fashion.
I suppose the best way to describe my style is a mix of designer gems and vintage finds. Before I started working for Brown Thomas I would have restricted my shopping to the high street but these days I am more likely to opt for designer items. When you are working with designer clothes all the time that are constructed so beautifully and made from such exquisite fabrics it's hard to resist temptation. I operate on a policy of fewer items but higher price tags.
I usually edge towards quirkier items. I don't like to wear the latest trend because I don't want to look as though I have lifted an entire look from the latest magazine. Dublin is too small to be doing that, I think. For example; big leather belts worn under the bust . . . everyone is wearing that right now.
My most treasured item at the moment is a pair of green Mark Jacobs platform shoes. They are so high I have to line the soles with hairspray to prevent my foot from slipping. They add on about eight inches and I really am a gigantic woman when I wear them.
I love Diane Von Furstenburg because I think her dresses are timeless. My favourite is a knee-length dress which is totally backless but comes up high at the front with a pussycat bow neckline.
The items I spend the most on are generally shoes, coats and handbags.
My favourite coat at the moment is by Tracy Rees . . .it's mint, mushroom and pink in colour and it's a kind of pea/swing coat. I just put it on and I feel in a good mood, it's so cheerful.
