GARDEN WORK Start cutting Eucalyptus trees now

>> If you want your existing Eucalyptus (an Antipodean genus that is fast becoming an environmental nightmare in those warmer countries to which it has been introduced) to form a fresh-leaved bush rather than grow straight up into a tall tree, then cut all its growth back to just above ground level right now.

>> You can also prune buddleia to the scut now, or at least a few inches from the ground. Being superresilient and a bit of a thug, no harm will come to it at all and the flowers will arrive as usual later in the year.

>> Blue-flowered Caryopteris can also be cut hard back to near the base now. If it has very weak or damaged shoots, these should be removed altogether. The plant will look like a sad few sticks for a while, but not for long.
