ARCHBISHOP of Dublin Diarmuid Martin last night said that Pope John Paul II "still desired to carry out the mission that he had received from the Lord and to carry it on until the last", even in his deepest suffering.
Celebrating mass in Dublin's Pro-Cathedral on the eve of the first anniversary of John Paul's death, Archbishop Martin said that the late pope had recognised that the "Lord had called him to carry out his mission through suffering".
The archbishop also prayed for an increase in vocations. "The situation is grave, " he said. "Last year was the first year in history in which we had no priestly ordination for the diocese of Dublin. We need new priests."
