JOHN WILSON PICKS SOME WINES FROM THE ENOWINE SALE



Enowine recently expanded from its Monkstown base into the IFSC, where it now occupies the former Cabot & Co.

premises. To celebrate, they are running a sale. Because of their unique sampling system, you can taste one or all of the wines below if you visit either shop.

Under 10

Ottone Barbera Piemonte San Silvestro 2003, 8.99 (down from 9.99 or 50 for six bottles) I love good Barbera . . . it stands out from other wines with its fresh cherry fruits, refreshing acidity, and light tannin-free finish. The Ottone has lovely ripe red fruits, an earthy touch and a soft, easy finish. This would be perfect with all kinds of pasta dishes, pizza or charcuterie. At the price, consider buying it by the six-pack.

Under 20

Morgon 2004 Chateau de Pizay, 13.99 Spring seems to have finally decided to put in an appearance, so maybe it is time to put away those alcoholic monsters and try something lighter and more summery. This is classic Beaujolais . . . lovely, pure, fresh cherry and strawberry fruits without any of those bully-boy tannins. Drink it on its own or with charcuterie, cold meats and salads. This would be a smart option for an up-market lunch.

Anything goes

Santenay 1er cru Les Gravieres Lucien Mazurd 2001, 19.99 (down from 23.99) Santenay is one of the most southerly towns of the Cote d'Or, the poshest strip of vineyards in the Burgundy. Les Gravieres is its finest vineyard. As with most Pinot Noir, this is pale in colour with elegant dark cherry fruits; but it also offers an added earthy, spicy dimension and a cool dry finish. It is the sort of wine that will open out wonderfully with food . . . try it with roast chicken or duck, or for vegetarians, baked stuffed mushrooms.
