Easter extravaganza in sunny Malta Easter is a fascinating time to visit the island of Malta. Like Spain, it is a place that favours processions and on Easter Sunday these are in full flow across the towns and villages on the island, with the statue of the 'Risen Christ' carried aloft by the locals.
This year, during the week leading up to Easter Sunday, there is also a 'Last Supper' display on view in Zebbug . . . a set of 13 life-sized papiermache statues that represent Jesus and the Apostles. If you can't make it in time for Easter this year there are plenty of other festivals coming up in Malta over the next few months, from its huge Fireworks Festival at the very end of April to its Spring Folk Singing Festival in May and Il-Bandu equestrian races in June. A number of tour operators operate to Malta from Ireland . . . Budget Travel, Panorama, Sunway, Direct and JWT/Falcon, among others.
