Train crash in Indonesia leaves 13 dead and 26 injured

A PASSENGER train travelling to the Indonesian capital of Jakarta ploughed into the back of a stationary train early yesterday, killing at least 13 people and injuring 26 others, officials said. Rescue workers were checking to see if any more bodies or injured passengers remained trapped in the wreckage of the trains, which were carrying 1,000 passengers in total.

Transportation minister Hatta Radjasa said initial reports indicated that the driver of the moving train had failed to heed a conductor's call to stop before it crashed into the other train at Gubuk station just after 2am on Saturday morning.
