Lakeside living with all the mod cons in Co Galway
Valerie Shanley

BUILT within the last two years, this four-bed residence combines all the best elements of country living with modern comforts, while also taking great advantage of the surrounding scenic landscape and tranquil views over Lough Corrib.

Set within three miles from Ashford Castle and the villages of Clonbur and Cong - forever associated with the John Ford classic film The Quiet Man - Corrib View House, at Ardaun East, Clonbur, Co Galway, is a spacious home that fully enjoys its waterside location.

The picture-book scenery, visible from both the house and the timber deck, includes a view across to Golden Bay - aptly named for its blaze of colour at sunset.

There are many appealing features inside the house too, an obvious one being the ninemetre long communal kitchen, with vaulted timber beams that enhance the overall spaciousness. Functional, with a central island unit, fitted oak presses, integrated appliances and a brick feature chimney breast over the the cooker, the kitchen also has that heartof-the-home feel and is furnished with inviting wicker furniture.

Outside, the deck provides an additional al fresco dining space, sheltered, with a delightful pergola and large enough for a patio heater and barbecue. The living space in the house briefly comprises the entrance hall, livingroom, study/bedroom four, kitchen/ diningroom, three bedrooms (one en suite) and main bathroom.

Cong is just within the border of Co Mayo, on the edge of Connemara, and lies on the strip of land between Lough Corrib and Lough Mask. Also nearby is Lough Coolin, a small stretch of water in the shadow of Mount Gable. Galway is 45km away, while there is a host of facilities and amenities in the nearby towns.

The lakes have won recognition from anglers, while there are walking trails through wonderfully wild and bracing countryside. Closer to the house, those rugged grounds have been tamed to include a landscaped garden with neat lawns and shrubs.

Framing it all are the inescapable views, demanding attention at both sunrise and sunset.
