THE Broadcasting Commission of Ireland (BCI) said last week that Setanta Sports, its subsidiary NASN (Ireland & UK) and David Harvey's City Channel should provide subtitles on their programming.
The commission said it was mindful that the stations were in their infancy and therefore said it set low levels of programming that must be subtitled in coming years. It said that, this year, 2% of Setanta Sports' coverage should be subtitled, rising to 4% next year and 20% by 2015. NASN's UK and Ireland coverage will have the same requirement for 2006, also rising to 20% in 2015. City Channel will not have to have any subtitled programming this year, but in 2007 the commission said 1% of its output should be subtitled, rising to 5% in 2011 and 9% by 2015.
