THE new baseball season is all gof And New York's beloved Yankees are already struggling to deliver the goods, with much-hyped new signing Johnny Damon, formerly of the Boston Red Sox, failing to make a splash . . . maybe Johnny Boy should have kept his trademark beard and flowing locks, shaved in accordance with Yankee grooming rules.
Then there's the controversy surrounding the new Yankee Stadium, set for 2009; the legendary 'House That Ruth Built' is to be canned for a new facility, to be built on 22 acres of Bronx public park space, creating environmental headaches and community ill-will aplenty.
