TRIED & TASTED MARMALADE

Aldi's Citora fine cut marmalade 79c / 454g Old style flavour. Text book taste . . .acidic, sharp and sugary.

Despite high fruit content it tastes less orangey than some of the others.

** Follain orange marmalade 1.19 / 340g Quite sharp with acidic layers that dominate the high orange content.

Smells good but fails to deliver a decent orange hit.

** Fruitfield Old Time Irish coarse cut marmalade 1.89 / 454g Extra orangey flavour.

Pieces taste fresh and zesty. Great texture, not too acidic, perfectly sweet. Delicious.

***** St Dalfour Rhapsodie de Fruit thick cut orange spread 2.34 / 284g Not quite a marmalade, this chunky spread has very few 'bits'. The fruit has been mixed to produce a marmaladestyle spread. Good flavour and ideal for baking.

*** Tesco organic fine cut orange marmalade 2.02 / 340g The low fruit content really showed as it is very light on flavour. It was overly sweet with a jelly consistency, and wasn't orangey enough.

*Jillian Bolger
