GEORGIAN Dublin and the way it has been, and should be treated, are the themes of a major multidisciplinary conference being organised by the Sherry FitzGerald group next month.
Over three days, the conference will bring together those with a professional interest in Georgian Dublin's past, present and future from historians, architects and town planners to literary and medical figures and business leaders.
Historian Dr Gillian O'Brien's keynote address is on the central theme that, The key to the future of Dublin lies in the doorways of its past" . . . an apt lecture given the title conference itself, 'Bare Bones of Fanlight: Georgian Dublin'.
The conference is cohosted by UCD and will be held in Newman House, 85-86 St Stephen's Green from 4 to 6 May. The event will also include sessions on how the state, private institutions and individuals have behaved toward Georgian Dublin and it will consider how it has been and will be incorporated into a 21st century city.
Former taoiseach Dr Garret FitzGerald will open the conference and the list of participants includes Dr WJ McCormack, Patrick Guinness, Dr Finola O'Kane Crimmins, Susan Roundtree, Dr Nessa Roche, Ruairi Quinn, Dr Gillian O'Brien, Dr James Kelly, Cormac Allen, Dr Frederick O'Dwyer and Frank McDonald.
