ALTHOUGH she kicks ass in Tomb Raider as the gun toting Lara Croft, Goodwill Ambassador for the UN, and High Commissioner for Refugees, Angelina Jolie promotes herself as a sort of Mother Earth.
She fights corruption on screen and defends human rights and takes in orphans off-screen, and now the Hollywood star has given a boost to the property market in Namibia, as she has decided to have her first biological child there.
There had been speculation that Jolie was going to give birth in France where they have a very good maternity system, in honour of her French mother. But it now transpires that Africa . . . the prehistoric birthplace of the human race itself . . . is now her birth country of choice.
Her baby, due any day now, will be her third child, in addition to her two adopted children Maddox Chivan [4] and Zahara Marley [1] who were adopted in Cambodia and Ethiopia respectively.
Jolie and her fiance Brad Pitt have booked out all 14 rooms and suites at the luxury Burning Shores resort, on Long Beach, north of Walvis Bay and near the famous dunes of the Namibian desert. Local media report that the hotel area is under heavy security.
Jolie first fell in love with Namibia while filming the movie Beyond Borders there in 2002.
But the media spotlight on the celebrity couple has also had the effect of sparking investor interest in some of the very upmarket natural hideaways that have been built in the spectacularly beautiful Namibian countryside.
It is, of course, one for those who don't mind a risk, given the country's past political and economic stability.
But tourism is on the up, mainly due to the growing appetite for holidays in unspoilt parts of the world.
For those who also wish to have a home or investment property in the cradle of modern civilisation, observe elephants and rhinos, swim through shipwrecks and ride over the desert sands, Pam Golding Properties (www. pamgolding. co. za), a member of Savills International, are selling properties on Long Beach, where Jolie and Pitt have currently set up residence.
For a modest 293,803 you can buy a ?modern, luxurious and spacious townhouse, " on the seafront, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Some properties also come with balconies so you can watch dolphins in the Atlantic or have a barbeque and watch the sunset on the rooftop.
If you don't earn a movie star's salary, a more economical 102,232 will get you a one-bedroom apartment, but you can still at least call yourself the neighbour of some of the most recognised faces in the world.
While the celebrity family may have flown in on a private jet the closest airport is Hosea Kutako International Airport, near the capital Windhoek, where there are bi-weekly flights to London.
If you'd rather test the Namibian sand before you plough in head first, Okavango Tours and Safaris (www. okavango. com) is a specialist travel company providing tailor-made holidays around Namibia.
The couple's jet remains on the tarmac in case they change their mind and with previous rumours stating they were getting married and having the baby in Lake Garda and then Paris it is possible their round the world trek with the world's media will continue.
