ONE of the country's leading crime writers is taking legal action over a website belonging to celebrity lawyer Giovanni di Stefano.
Sunday World reporter Paul Williams is suing the service provider which hosts a website belonging to the controversial lawyer after several allegations against the journalist were made on it.
Williams claims that di Stefano, who is representing Saddam Hussein and Patrick 'Dutchy' Holland, has deliberately targeted him due to his work as one of Ireland's most high-profile crime journalists.
A series of bizarre allegations are made on the website. Williams yesterday declined to comment, although lawyers acting for the journalist confirmed to the Sunday Tribune that they would be initiating proceedings against an English-based internet service provider which hosts the site.
Speaking to the Sunday Tribune yesterday, di Stefano said that he stood by the claims one hundred million per cent" and said that his interest in Williams stems from articles published in the Sunday World.
What do I care about Paul Williams other than that he has made what I believe to be false allegations against some of my clients, " he said. The sad thing is that he is a bloody good writer, but I can't stand by when he claims that Patrick Holland is a murderer."
The internet claims come shortly after Williams wrote an article for the Sunday World which made various allegations against di Stefano, including a claim that he was not qualified to practise law in the European Union.
Much of the content of the website is focused on Irish events, in particular the case of Patrick Holland, the man named in court as the killer of journalist Veronica Guerin.
