TRAINER Dermot Weld has made a good start to the flat season, and that gives him a valuable advantage when it comes to Golden Arrow's chances in the Group Three PW McGrath Memorial Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown this afternoon. The contest has become a valuable Epsom Derby trial in recent years, and Golden Arrow is a tentative choice.
Pat Smullen's mount was a fair juvenile performer, and crowned a good two-year-old campaign by chasing home George Washington in the Group One National Stakes at the Curragh.
Golden Arrow is preferred to Aidan O'Brien's pair, Mountain and Altius. The former is well-regarded, but is rated 10lb inferior to his stable-companion, who rounded off last season with a third placing behind Septimus in the Beresford Stakes.
Racing also takes place at Sligo, with an all NH card.
Ruby Walsh and Barry Geraghty are currently engaged in battle for the championship, and Walsh can consolidate his advantage by helping himself to a treble through Masamiyr, Rosamio and Hearthstead Dream.
