Situated on Karlsplatz right in the pulsating heart of Munich, this five-star establishment is a monument to perfection and cleanliness, yet with staff who come across as people you'd readily share a tankard of beer with. The unassuming exterior (which underwent war-induced refurbishments since the 1930s) belies a sumptuous, classical interior.
What's the best thing?
Its superb restaurant Konigshof, a winner not only of a Michelin star but also 18 points from the prestigious Gault Millau awards. Also voted the best hotel restaurant in Germany three times, its views from the upper floor are an added bonus.
Will it break the bank?
Doubles start at 210 per night in the month of May while, in the restaurant, the 115 set menu will make a bit of a dent but it's a great culinary experience.
Nearest airport?
Munich International Airport is less than 30 minutes away by taking the S-bahn train from the Karlsplatz stop just outside the front door of the hotel.
