THE first phase of an imaginative development of townhouses and apartments by the water at Greencastle in Co Donegal went on sale last week with strong interest from buyers due to the high level of design and finish.
Agents Franklins in Letterkenny say they expect phase-one prices of 385,000 at The Fort, which will comprise an initial 29 homes, to rise to 425,000 when the second phase is launched.
This is a most unusual development. Set against the backdrop of the 19th century Napoleonic Fort and Martello Tower and the ruins of a 13th century Norman castle, The Fort uses the stone battlements and curves of these historic buildings as reference points in its modern townhouses and apartments.
The buildings are right on the water, with gardens sloping down to Lough Foyle where there is a waterfront walk, and they have amazing views across the bay towards Magilligan Point.
Greencastle is on the Inishowen Peninsula, one of the most northerly parts of Donegal, only 25 minutes from Derry and a short car ferry journey away from Coleraine.
Letterkenny is the nearest large Donegal town, about an hour's drive The houses are two and a half storeys so as to drink in the views, with vast doubleheight windows on the first and second floors where the open plan living/dining room and kitchen are located. Two double bedrooms which share a bathroom are on the ground floor, from which steps go up to the central sitting room. A third bedroom is on a mezzanine floor above the sitting room so that it shares the views.
These buildings are faced in stone and the townhouses are from 107.8 square metres to 120.6 square metres.
Standard features include K-glass double-glazed windows, intercom phones, natural gas heating, lifts to all floors for the apartments, custom kitchens, appliances, partial wall tiling and ceramic tiles on the floor in the kitchen and bathrooms.
