THE top prosecutor at the UN-backed Sierra Leone war crimes court this weekend announced his resignation, but left the door open to returning one day to lead the prosecution against ex-Liberian president Charles Taylor.
It is now unclear when a trial of Taylor, a one-time warlord, could begin. The UN is seeking a country to imprison the ex-Liberian leader if he is found guilty of his alleged crimes. The UN-backed Sierra Leone court is asking for his trial to be held overseas, saying Taylor is a destabilising force in west Africa.
