TOMMcEllistrim is at it again. Earlier this month, the Kerry North TD was lobbying for the government to give every school in the country a flagpole and tricolour to celebrate 1916. Now to mark the centenary year of the Easter Rising, the Fianna Fail politician wants a "landmark monument" to be built in his North Kerry constituency to "remember its fallen heroes".
Ivor Callely is another Fianna Failer capitalising of the Rising with a four-page information leaflet on the events of 1916 which was sent to his constituents in Dublin North Central. "Fianna Fail with our founding father, Eamon de Valera, was born out of the Rising, " the former junior minister said, in a significant stretch of historical reality.
