THE voice of the landlord sector will be strengthened with the appointment of Fintan McNamara as chief executive of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers (IPAV). With 25 years' experience in the property market, several of those spent as the voice of the Irish Property Owners Association, McNamara is also a member of the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB), the dispute resolution mechanism established for landlords and tenants in September 2004.
He was prominent on the ad hoc Residential Tenancies Board which monitored and amended the legislative proposals resulting in the Act of 2004.
It is believed that a major focus for the IPAV's new chief executive will be the development and expansion of the Institute's educational programmes, and also ensuring accessibility of same to all entrants to the profession.
Outgoing executive head Liam O'Donnell, who will hand over the reins at next weekend's annual convention in Adare, commented that, "Fintan McNamara's appointment gives a major boost to the Institute. His education experience combined with that of the property industry ideally qualifies him for this challenging role."
