AIB LEAGUE DIVISION TWO SEMI-FINALS DOLPHIN 26 YOUNG MUNSTER 24
Musgrave Park
BARRY KEESHAN was Dolphin's hero yesterday at Musgrave Park when his drop-goal six minutes into injury time broke the hearts of the Young Munster team and with it sealed his side's place in the All Ireland League Division 2 final next weekend.
The Young Munster team looked to be well in control midway through the second half when they led 24-9 but a fantastic last quarter by the home side in which they scored two tries from James Coughlan and Ed Mills brought them back into the game.
With the game entering injury time, Young Munster still led by a single point . . . 2423 . . . and it looked to be enough until Keeshan produced that bit of magic six minutes into injury time to seal a famous two-point win for the home team and their support.
TERENURE COLLEGE 55 UCC 14 Lakelands Park
TERENURE College demolished a depleted UCC side in the other semi final at Lakelands Park yesterday.
The home side scored eight tries, six of them converted, in the process while the visitors only tallied two tries, including a penalty try.
Man of the match for Terenure was Leinster hooker James Blaney who grabbed a hat-trick of tries, ably supported by scrum-half Mark Mahony, who bagged two tries of his own to cap a fine performance. Add in the immaculate place kicking of outhalf David McAllister and it was no surprise that this was one-way traffic from start to finish.
McAllister dropped a neat goal to open the scoring with Mahony and Blaney scoring tries to open an early 15-0 lead.
UCC got on the scoreboard through a Eric Moloney try to leave it 22-7 at the break. But it was the home side who cantered away with the win.
