Bohs plan faces delays
Kieran Flynn

BOHEMIANS Football Club is to sell its landmark Phibsborough stadium, Dalymount Park, in a 50m deal with Andorey Developments, but it could be several years before a ball is kicked at the new ground planned for a greenfield site in Castleknock.

Under the terms of the deal Bohs will pocket a cash payment of 25m and remain at Dalymount, which they have occupied for 105 years, until the developer has provided them with a purpose-built 10,000 seater stadium at Diswelstown, near the M50, in three to five years time.

But already there are indications that local objections could mean that time frame having to be extended. Local people are conscious of the difficulty of getting land in Dublin 15 for public uses such as schools and amenity purposes. The Diswellstown location is one of the areas earmarked for potential further school and residential development.

Local Labour TD Joan Burton is calling on the club to enter "immediate discussions" with the local community to discuss the planned move.

"There are many hard questions about the effect this development will have on the local community that must be answered by the developers, " says Burton.
