West lags behind east in prosperity



NEW statistics have revealed a significant difference in prosperity levels between the east and west of Ireland.

According to figures from the European Union, the average GDP per capita of inhabitants in the west of the country in 2003 was 24,000, 13% less than those on the eastern seaboard.
